About Course

15th September 2023 Zoom 2pm – 4pm

This seminar aims to provide an overview and understanding of the practice and procedure in the mostly commonly undertaken types of civil litigation. First looking at the elements required to bring a cause of action and how liability arises, it will then turn to limitation periods and set out crucial time limits and how different types of claims become statute barred.

The seminar will trace the progress of a case through the court, beginning with initiating documents, service of those documents and applications for substituted service. Next, it will look at the steps before trial including default applications, where a party fails to take an action required by the rules of court. It will provide an understanding of the various pre-trial applications such as discovery as well as what occurs at the trial itself. Participants will gain an understanding of process of civil litigation in Ireland.
