Family Law – Children & the Family – (Course 1)

This seminar will examine the practice and procedure when parents, living separately, are seeking orders from the court in relation to dependent children. The seminar will focus on the different types of applications made for and on behalf of dependent children when the parties cannot agree.
First, it will take a practical look at applications such as custody, guardianship, access and maintenance and the procedure for getting matters listed before the different courts. The importance of the voice of the child and best interests’ principle in family law matters involving children will be discussed, as the seminar looks at how a judge decides between the competing interests of the parties.
Family law –The Separating Couple – (Course 2)
18th October 2023 Zoom 2pm – 4pm
This seminar will examine the practice and procedures when couples are separating and seeking to formalise the separation by way of court orders. The type of application made will dependent upon the nature of the relationship and the lecture will examine the relationships which are governed by family law and the reliefs available.
The seminar will provide a practical look at how separating couples go about getting before a judge when seeking divorce, judicial separation, dissolution of civil partnership and relief following cohabitation. There are specific legal requirements for each of the applications and differing reliefs available for some. Each will be analysed in turn, to provide attendees with the practical knowledge and know-how to progress each of these types of cases on behalf of clients.
